A holiday apartment with a hot tub in Toggenburg: wellness with a mountain view

A holiday apartment with a hot tub in Toggenburg: two apartments, each with its own private outdoor hot tub and a view of the Schafberg. Soak after a hike, book direct.

There’s a particular moment at the end of a long day in the mountains: your legs are heavy, your cheeks flushed from the fresh air, and all you want is warm water. Not in a crowded indoor pool, not with the smell of chlorine and strangers around you. Outside, all to yourself, with the mountains right in front of you. That’s exactly why we put a private hot tub in the garden of both Louisa’s Loft and Louisa’s Gallery, and honestly, for many of our guests it’s the real reason they come.

Both holiday apartments sit in the historic SutterSport building at Hauptstrasse 36 in Alt St. Johann, in the heart of Toggenburg. This is Hidden Switzerland the way it should be: almost as lovely as Appenzell, only quieter, without the tour coaches. And after a day out in this landscape, a warm soak under the open sky is waiting for you.

Two apartments, two private outdoor hot tubs

Here’s what makes it special: each apartment has its own outdoor hot tub. No sharing with other guests, no queueing, no fixed slots. You step outside, climb in, and your gaze goes straight to the Schafberg.

Louisa’s Loft is on the ground floor and sleeps up to 5 guests plus a cot. Its hot tub is compact and cosy, made for about 3 people, just right for a couple, a small family, or a few quiet hours together after a hike.

Louisa’s Gallery is a maisonette over two levels for up to 6 guests plus a cot. Its outdoor hot tub is larger and holds up to 5 people, ideal if you want to soak together as a family or a group of friends. And if you still haven’t had enough of warm water afterwards, the Gallery also has a proper bathtub in the bathroom. The Gallery, too, looks out over the Schafberg.

If you’re arriving as a bigger group, you can book both apartments together as the whole house, that’s up to 11 guests under one roof, with two private hot tubs in the garden.

A soak after the mountains, in every season

An outdoor hot tub is a different thing in every season, and that’s exactly what makes it so good.

In summer, you come back from a hike, perhaps from one of the quiet mountain lakes or from the Chäserrugg, and let your muscles unwind in the warm water on a mild evening, while the last of the sun slips behind the peaks. In autumn, you sit in the steaming water as the air around you turns clear and crisp and the forests change colour. And in winter it’s almost magical: you step through the snow into the warm tub, the starry sky above you, the snow-covered mountains all around, after a day on the skis or snowshoes. That kind of stillness is something you have to experience once.

It’s not a luxury spectacle, and we’re not going to claim it’s the loveliest hot tub in Switzerland. But it’s genuine, it’s yours for the length of your stay, and it’s probably the most honest way to settle into the slow-travel rhythm of Toggenburg.

Wellness here means: you get to stay in

A proper wellness stay doesn’t end at the edge of the hot tub. Both apartments have a fully equipped kitchen, including a fondue and raclette set. It’s one of our favourite kinds of evening: first into the warm water, then into cosy clothes, with the fondue bubbling away indoors and nobody needing to head out again.

From around 8pm the house grows quiet, no bustle, no traffic noise, just the mountains and you. Add a glass of wine on the sofa, and the day winds down exactly the way a holiday day should. If you like, you can round it all off with a long soak in the Gallery’s bathtub. Dogs, by the way, are warmly welcome (CHF 40), and our house dog Lou is delighted with every new guest.

Everything else stays easy: free parking, self check-in from 4pm, a bus stop and shop just 2 minutes away, and Zurich about an hour off. And if something does come up, cancellation is flexible, free up to 14 days before.

So if you’re in the mood for warm water under the open sky, the best way is to book directly with us at staywithlouisa.ch, no commission, with secure card payment. Louisa’s Loft is from CHF 110 and Louisa’s Gallery from CHF 130 per night (plus final cleaning and tourist tax). The Schafberg is already waiting, and the hot tub will be warm when you arrive.
